I served it with this delicious Middle Eastern turmeric rice. The whole family loved it, my B and I carried it over for lunch to office to enjoy it again. I made it this way, mixing and matching whatever I could find, so it is definitely not an authentic version! The end result was really delicious. I found that most the recipes had variations, depending upon their family preferences. The link given was this one and I went hunting around Google for more links. In fact, the stew which combines mutton and okra is not unique to Iraq, however every country has their own version with some variations. This is the recipe that caught my attention. This flavorful stew is often seasoned with aromatic. Let this mixture come to a boil and let it boil for 5-8 minutes before reducing the heat to medium low. Vegan Bamia is a delightful Middle Eastern dish that combines the flavors of tender okra, and tomatoes. Working in batches, add the meat and fry, turning, until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes. In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, warm 4 tablespoons of the butter or oil. Mix well, then add the hot water (about 5-6 cups). This dish is popular throughout the Middle East and can be prepared with lamb or beef. Pour the meat broth over the okra until it is covered. Add the mashed tomatoes and stir until the ingredients are mixed. Enjoy Quantity: 2 lbs (4-6 servings) Prep time: 60 min. Add the salt, black pepper, 7 spices, garlic powder, coriander, paprika, and cinnamon. To prepare the okra: in another saucepan, heat the oil and fry the chopped onions and garlic until translucent. Along the way, you can also experiment with spices, depending on your taste. We were given a few choices from which we had to choose and make.
